Το βραβείο του «Καλύτερου Ηθοποιού» για την ερμηνεία του στην ταινία «Η πιο σκοτεινή ώρα» όπου υποδύεται τον Ουίνστον Τσώρτσιλ, απέσπασε ο Βρετανός ηθοποιός Gary Oldman, κατά τη διάρκεια της 71ης τελετής απονομής των βρετανικών βραβείων κινηματογράφου.
Ο Oldman επικράτησε των Daniel Day-Lewis (Αόρατη Κλωστή), Daniel Caluya (Τρέξε!), Jamie Bell (Τα αστέρια δεν πεθαίνουν στο Λίβερπουλ) και Thimothee Chalamet (Να με φωνάζεις με το όνομά σου).
Η Αμερικανίδα ηθοποιός Frances Mcdormand, έλαβε το Bafta «Καλύτερης Ηθοποιού» για την ερμηνεία της στην ταινία «Οι τρεις πινακίδες έξω από το Έμπινγκ, στο Μιζούρι). Η Αμερικανίδα αναδείχθηκε νικήτρια έναντι των άλλων συνυποψήφιων της: της Annette Bening (Τα αστέρια δεν πεθαίνουν στο Λίβερπουλ), της Margot Robbie (Εγώ, η Τόνια), της Sally Hawkins (Η μορφή του Νερού) και της Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird).
Το βραβείο Bafta καλύτερης ταινίας απονεμήθηκε στην ταινία «Οι Τρεις Πινακίδες έξω από το Έμπινγκ στο Μιζούρι» του Βρετανού σκηνοθέτη Martin MacDonagh.
Η δραματική ταινία, που αφηγείται την ιστορία μιας μητέρας η οποία ζητά δικαιοσύνη, μετά τον θάνατο της κόρης της, επικράτησε έναντι των «Να με φωνάζεις με το όνομά σου» του Luca Guadagnino, «Η πιο σκοτεινή Ώρα» του Joe Wrigght, «Η μορφή του νερού» του Guillermo del Toro και «Δουνκέρκη» του Christopher Nolan.
